To gain an even broader perspective on life as a TU Law student, please read the blogs below. These entries were written by former law students who have graduated from TU Law and gone on to pursue an L.L.M in International Trade, a non-traditional career in Environmental / Natural Resources Research and Development and other diverse legal careers (both traditional and non-traditional) in the states of Texas, Florida, Illinois, Oklahoma and California. We wish them well as they turn the page of this chapter in their lives.

Year of Graduation:
May 2007 TU Law grad
Legal Interests:
Litigation, Tort Law, Information Technology
Hobbies & extracurricular:
Hunting, Biking, Concerts, Music, Movies, Madden Video Games
Why TU Law:
As a graduate of the large and prestigious Texas A&M University, I never thought I would leave Texas for law school. However, after visiting the University of Tulsa, I found a smaller, yet more intimate campus environment for me to learn and study the law. I was very pleased with the new court room and the library facilities, and the new rec center offered a great avenue to workout stress. I have lived on campus in the graduate apartments all three years, and I enjoy the ability to live comfortably and walk to my classes at the law school.
Professional experience while in law school:
I served as a summer law clerk for Johnson, McConaty and Sargent in Denver, CO during the summer of 2006. Furthermore, I served as Barrister Anthony Moore's legal assistant in Dublin, Ireland during the summer of 2005.
I am involved in the Board of Advocates and I am currently competing for a position on the ATLA Moot Court Trial team. Furthermore, I was elected to the Student Bar Association's executive board for two years where I served as Secretary and Web Administrator. As Community Service chairman in 2006, I served Tulsa by hosting the 2006 TU Law Annual Golf Classic. Finally, I am a member of the Student Ambassador program for Tulsa law and I am secretary of the Intellectual Property Society of Tulsa.

Legal Interests:
Public Interest and Health Law
Hobbies & extracurricular:
Community service activities
Why TU Law:
My parents are both graduates of TU's undergraduate program and I have a long family history with the school. Also, the fact that Tulsa's law school had a part-time program (which fit my needs at the time) was perfect. Now I have switched to full-time so I have enjoyed the flexibility TU Law provides. I looked at other law schools but none were as flexible with the schedule. Another reason for attending TU was the admissions staff. They were extremely patient and helpful, even giving me ideas for jobs in the area as it was important for me to remain working while attending law school.
Professional experience while in law school:
While in law school I worked 1 year for the Juvenile Public Defenders Office and am currently doing an externship with Domestic Violence Intervention Services. I have participated in moot court competitions and this year joined the American Inns of Court, which will help me develop professional contacts in several areas of law.

Year of Graduation:
May 2008 TU Law graduate
Legal Interests:
International Law, Civil Rights and Litigation
Hobbies & extracurricular:
Traveling, skiing, fishing, reading, cultural activities and trying new restaurants
Why TU Law:
Coming from a large University, I wanted to attend a more intimate law school; somewhere I wasn't going to be another number. I wanted to establish relationships with the faculty, administration and other students that I could rely and build upon in the future. Another reason I chose to come to Tulsa Law was the timely and responsive impression I received from the admissions office. Having applied to over twenty law schools, the University of Tulsa was the only school that had personalized correspondence with me. This stood out and truly showed me the school had a genuine interest in what I had to offer, something I am very grateful for. In addition, the amenities of being on an undergraduate campus, such as the fitness center, activity center and campus housing for law students were also very important in my decision.
Professional experience while in law school:
*Recipient and Participant of 2006 Graduate to Leaders Workshop in Law scholarship hosted by the National Italian American Foundation, Washington, D.C.
* Research Assistant to local attorney in Tulsa

Hometown:

Year of Graduation:
May 2008 TU Law graduate
Legal Interests:
Finding a job; paying off my student loans. Employment law, civil litigation
Hobbies & extracurricular:
Going to the Drillers games; eating ice cream; sleeping; making funny faces at my professors when they turn their backs away from me; griping in general.
Why TU Law:
You get what you pay for. The closeness and camaraderie that TU provides are of paramount importance to me. After having attended a large public university, I quickly fell in love with all the benefits of TU. TU Law is like an episode of Cheers; everybody knows your name.
Professional experience while in law school:
After my first year I was hired by Adam Weintraub (Attorney Adam on Mix 96 Wednesday mornings with Dave and Nina) for the summer. My duties included filing at the courthouse and preparing responses and briefs for our pending suits. Shortly after I was hired, my boss and two other firms merged and moved to a different downtown location. The firm I work at currently is Savage'O'Donnell, Affeldt, Weintraub & Johnson. My firm specializes in insurance defense, corporations, employment law, wills and trusts and some family law. I was asked to stay on with the firm through my second year. Apparently they like my work ethic, maybe my work too...:)
It has been a great experience working and it makes a lot of the concepts discussed in class so much more clear. Plus, I get great practice in writing and the regular business of a law office.

Hobbies & extracurricular:
Traveling the world, learning about other cultures, watching Entourage, continuing our intramural flag football dynasty, working out, surfing (when I go back home!)
Why TU Law:
I was overwhelmed by the personal attention the admissions office and the faculty gave me during my tour of the law school. The Dean of Admissions new the name of every student we passed, and knew how they were doing in their classes. This sincere concern for our wellbeing and success was one of the major selling points for me. I was also extremely attracted to our world renowned international law program!
Professional experience while in law school:
I spent my first summer as the sole law clerk on an U.S. Supreme Court case, and assisted in drafting the Supreme Court brief. This past summer I spent working for Garvey Schubert Barer in Beijing, China. Fei chung Hao!

Kim
Name:
Kim
Undergrad Institution:
Howard University and University of North Texas
Hometown:
Dallas, TX
Year of Graduation:
December 2007 TU Law graduate
Legal Interests:
I came to law school because of my desire to assist children, especially those who are in the foster care system. This has remained a focus of mine and upon graduation I plan to work as a juvenile public defender in Dallas. I am also open to being a district attorney because I feel that both positions can have a positive impact on the lives of children. I ultimately would like to have my own family law firm that specializes in juvenile law issues. Criminal law is another area that I am passionate about and I will likely do some anti-capital punishment work as well.
Hobbies & extracurricular:
I enjoy spending time with my husband and my dog. I am very close to my family and spend most of my free time talking on the phone with them - especially my niece (1 year old) and nephew (2 years old.) I also mentor several children around Tulsa and enjoy keeping in touch with them.
Why TU Law:
I love TX, but prefer to travel and experience new things. For this reason I decided to look at schools that were close to home, but that would also give me new experiences and innovative surroundings. Tulsa turned out to be the perfect place for me. When I came to visit the University of Tulsa I knew that this would be my new home. The faculty and staff are very warm, encouraging and resourceful. I am so happy that I decided to attend TU!

Right now I work for the Tulsa County District Attorney's Office and I plan to stay there for a long while to get trial experience. In the long term FBI, JAG, Medical Mal-Practice and private litigation interest me.
Hobbies & extracurricular:
I love softball (played for my undergraduate university), traveling, camping, and most important I love riding my motorcycle on the weekends.
Why TU Law:
I chose TU Law for many reasons. #1 was because it was close to my home. #2 because I loved what I saw out of the admissions office. They were so courteous, friendly, and helpful. They made me feel at home. #3 The students here seem to have a special bond. When I saw the pit for the first time and the friends just “hanging out” at school together it was more than school it was a family. I wanted to be a part of that.

Why TU Law:
I chose TU over other regional law schools because, having studied here as an undergrad, I was impressed with not only the community on campus, but also the relationship the University has with the Tulsa community itself. As a student who planned to establish myself in Tulsa, it was very important to me that my future law school not only facilitated networking opportunities, but also that the law community warmly welcomed and encouraged the law students joining their profession.

I came to TU mainly because of the Admissions Office. The response I got from admissions was different than any other school. I felt wanted and welcome, even before I set foot at TU, and it's proven to be a larger reflection of the entire administration. The Professional Development Office is also phenomenal, and works harder than any other career services department that I've heard of.

The people here are top notch, from the professors to the support staff to the students. Faculty and staff are genuinely helpful and knowledgeable. Here the horror stories about student competitiveness (Tearing pages out of statute books, hiding relevant books necessary for an assignment, etc.) remain myths. The atmosphere is competitive, but not over the top. Tulsa is a great place to live, I didn’t see snow until I went home to Colorado for Christmas last year.
